CA Foundation RTP Jan 2027 PDF with answers: all 4 papers
The CA Foundation RTP for January 2027 is out on ICAI's Board of Studies portal, boslive.icai.org, with answers for all four papers. Accounting and Business Laws give full worked answers; Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics give an answer key. For Business Laws, company and LLP law is applicable up to 30 June 2026, and the one amendment ICAI lists is the new small company limit.
Your first paper is on 3 January 2027, about nine weeks away. Below: the links, what changed since September 2026, what every question covers, four questions worked to ICAI's answers, and a plan around ICAI's MTPs.

Paper-wise dates are from ICAI's Guidance Notes for Foundation Exams January 2027 (PDF) (opens in a new tab), and timings also from the January 2027 examination notification (PDF) (opens in a new tab), both on icai.org. Papers 1 and 2 run 2 PM to 5 PM with 15 minutes of reading time from 1:45 PM. Papers 3 and 4 run 2 PM to 4 PM with no reading time. The RTP's general exam tips mention "separate 15 minutes for reading"; for Papers 3 and 4 the notification is what counts. Older RTPs are on ICAI's Foundation RTP page (opens in a new tab) and on our CA Foundation RTP page.
What's new in the CA Foundation RTP Jan 2027 vs Sep 2026
Short version: the law cut-off moves to 30 June 2026, the amendment is the same one, and the questions are almost all new.
| Point | September 2026 RTP | January 2027 RTP |
|---|---|---|
| Business Laws amendment listed | G.S.R. 880(E), small company limits | The same G.S.R. 880(E), nothing added |
| Company and LLP law applicable | As listed for September 2026 | MCA rules and notifications up to 30.06.26 |
| Study material | Not printed in the Sep 2026 paper files | August 2024 edition (Reprint August 2025 onwards) for all four papers |
| Questions | Sep 2026 set | New set; in our spot check of seven questions, only the "salary paid in advance" True/False repeats |
The September 2026 file is ICAI's Paper 2 RTP for September 2026 (PDF) (opens in a new tab). The 30 June 2026 line is on page 98 of the combined January 2027 RTP. It also says to read the study material with ICAI's "Relevant Legislative amendments for January 2027 examinations", for 1 May 2024 to 30 June 2026.
The one law amendment: small company limits
Part I of the Paper 2 RTP prints Notification G.S.R. 880(E) dated 1 December 2025. A small company under Section 2(85) is now a private company with paid-up capital up to ₹10 crore and turnover up to ₹100 crore. A holding or subsidiary company, a Section 8 company, or a company governed by a special Act can't be one. Your study material (page 6.14) still prints the older limits, so correct it by hand today. How this shows up in questions is in our CA Foundation Law mock test guide.
What each CA Foundation RTP Jan 2027 paper tests
Paper 1: Accounting RTP
ICAI says the answers are "presented in the same manner as expected from the students in the examination", so use them as your model for formats.
- Q1: ten True/False statements with reasons (expenses, prior period items, BRS, provision for bad debts, life membership, drawings, listed company, fixed charge).
- Q2 to Q9: theoretical framework (accounting policy, liability vs contingent liability), journal entries and capital vs revenue, purchase book, rectification, a nine-item BRS starting from an overdraft, valuation of inventories, depreciation on three machines, and bills of exchange.
- Q10 to Q12: final accounts of a sole proprietor (with GST on goods taken for personal use and given away), a club's receipts and payments and income and expenditure accounts, and incomplete records.
- Q13 to Q17: goodwill on admission, death of a partner (with a joint life policy), issue of shares, partly convertible debentures, and bonus and right issue.
- Q18: five short notes, from accounting conventions to the pros and cons of a right issue.
The repeat question types from ICAI's real 2026 papers are in CA Foundation Accounts important questions for Jan 2027.
Paper 2: Business Laws RTP with answers
After the amendment, 24 questions. Here is where they sit:
| Act | Questions | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Indian Regulatory Framework | Q1 | 1 |
| Indian Contract Act, 1872 | Q2 to Q8 | 7 |
| Sale of Goods Act, 1930 | Q9 to Q14 | 6 |
| Indian Partnership Act, 1932 | Q15 to Q18 | 4 |
| LLP Act, 2008 | Q19 | 1 |
| Companies Act, 2013 | Q20 to Q22 | 3 |
| Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 | Q23 to Q24 | 2 |
Contract and Sale of Goods take 13 of the 24. Most are short cases: unsound mind, an auction, "sale or return", a retiring partner's claim, an object clause, a bounced cheque.
Papers 3 and 4: RTP answer key only
- Quantitative Aptitude: 30 MCQs. Q1 to Q10 are Business Mathematics (surds, derivatives, series, quadratic roots, sets, combinations, compound interest, sinking fund), Q11 to Q14 logical reasoning (number series, coding, a seating arrangement), and Q15 to Q30 statistics (frequency curves, dispersion, probability, binomial, Poisson, normal, index numbers).
- Business Economics: 25 MCQs across micro and macro: fiscal policy, demand for money, indifference curves, cost curves, market forms, business cycles, national income, RBI tools, customs union, incidence of tax.
Both print only the key, with no working. For every miss, go back to that chapter of ICAI's study material.
Four CA Foundation RTP Jan 2027 questions, worked to ICAI's answers
The figures and answers below are ICAI's.
1. Accounting, Q1(f): "Fees received for Life Membership is a revenue receipt as it is of recurring nature." ICAI's answer: False. A life membership fee is a capital receipt because it is non-recurring, and it is added straight to the capital fund (general fund). The question says "with reasons", so a bare True or False is only half an answer. Write the one-line reason each time.
2. Business Laws, Q24: the dishonoured cheque. Mr. Y's cheque for ₹10,000 bounces for insufficient funds. ICAI's answer runs provision, facts, conclusion:
- Provision: Section 138 of the NI Act. A cheque issued to discharge a debt or liability and returned unpaid for insufficient funds is an offence, punishable with imprisonment up to two years, a fine up to twice the cheque amount, or both.
- Facts: Y's cheque was returned because his account didn't have enough funds and he had no authority to overdraw.
- Conclusion: Y is liable: up to two years, a fine up to ₹20,000, or both. If the cheque was a donation, Section 138 doesn't apply, because a gift cheque discharges no debt.
Part (ii) tests whether you check every condition of the section: here the condition "debt or liability" fails, so repeating the punishment would be wrong.
3. Quantitative Aptitude, Q20: the misread marks. The mean of 100 students was 45, but two marks were read as 85 and 54 instead of 58 and 45. Corrected total = 4,500 − 85 − 54 + 58 + 45 = 4,464, so the mean is 44.64 (ICAI's key: option c). Subtract both wrong marks and add both right ones; correcting only one pair gives a figure that isn't among the options.
4. Business Economics, Q24: cap-and-trade. Why is it cost-effective? ICAI's key is (C): firms with lower abatement costs reduce more. Option (A), "all firms must reduce pollution equally", describes a uniform standard, and that is exactly the costlier policy that cap-and-trade replaces.
How to use the CA Foundation RTP Jan 2027 with ICAI's MTPs
ICAI's Foundation MTPs for January 2027 run Series I on 1, 3, 7 and 9 December and Series II on 14, 16, 18 and 21 December 2026, from 2 PM (ICAI MTP notice, PDF (opens in a new tab)). You log in to download them on boslive.icai.org or register on ICAI's MTP portal. Paper-wise detail is in our ICAI MTP Jan 2027 schedule.
| When | What to do with the RTP |
|---|---|
| This week | Read Part I of the Paper 2 RTP and correct the small company limits in your book |
| November, chapter by chapter | After you revise a chapter, write that chapter's RTP questions without looking at the answer |
| Before MTP Series I (by 30 Nov) | Do the Paper 3 and Paper 4 RTP MCQs in one sitting each, timed |
| Between Series I and II | Write the full Paper 1 and Paper 2 RTPs, then mark them against ICAI's answers |
| After Series II | Redo only the RTP questions you got wrong |
Write first, then compare. ICAI's own instruction is to solve the questions "under examination conditions and then compare". Reading the answers first trains nothing. Our guide to checking your answers with ICAI's suggested answers shows how to mark yourself.
Mark Papers 1 and 2 by steps, not by the final figure. In descriptive papers, marks come for the format, the working notes, the provision and the conclusion, so a right total with no workings can still lose marks. To see what checking a written paper this way looks like, here is a real CA answer sheet checked step by step, with the reason for each mark cut next to the line it came from. Hold your RTP copy to the same standard.
