CA Inter result Sep 2026: link, pass % and what's next

· Updated · 13 min read

ICAI declared the CA Inter result Sep 2026 on 22 October 2026, and you can check it on caresults.icai.org with your registration number and roll number. Open the "Intermediate Examination : September 2026" link, enter your 6-digit roll number, registration number and the code on screen, and your statement of marks opens (ICAI notice, 14 October 2026 (opens in a new tab)).

Below: the three result links and which is yours, how to read "#" and "UNSUCCESSFUL-EX", ICAI's Sep 2026 pass percentage and toppers with the trend since Sep 2024, and what to do next.

CA Inter result Sep 2026 declared: direct link

ICAI's Examination – Students page (opens in a new tab) lists "Results of the Chartered Accountants Intermediate Examination held in September 2026 declared" on 22 October 2026. The result is on caresults.icai.org (opens in a new tab), which shows three Intermediate links for this attempt:

Link on caresults.icai.orgWho it is forWhat you enter
Intermediate Examination : September 2026 (opens in a new tab)Almost everyone: new-scheme Group I, Group II or both6-digit roll number, registration number, screen code
Intermediate Examination - UNITS : September 2026 (opens in a new tab)Candidates writing under ICAI's Unit SchemeSame
"CHECK MERIT LIST" → Intermediate Examination : September 2026 (opens in a new tab)Anyone checking the all-India merit listRoll number and screen code only

Who writes under the Unit Scheme? Students who had passed one group of an older Intermediate course (IPC, PCE, PE-II, or the Intermediate held from May 2018 to November 2023) and converted to the current course. If you passed one group from May 2024 onwards, you are not a Unit candidate; your result is on the main link (ICAI Guidance Notes, Sept 2026, PDF (opens in a new tab)).

CA Foundation Sep 2026 result: not on caresults.icai.org as of 29 October 2026. So far ICAI has declared only the Intermediate result for September 2026.

How to check CA Inter result Sep 2026, step by step

  1. Keep your admit card open. It has your 6-digit roll number. Your registration number is on your SSP profile at eservices.icai.org.
  2. Go to caresults.icai.org and click "Intermediate Examination : September 2026" (or the UNITS link if you are a Unit candidate).
  3. Enter your roll number, registration number and the text shown in the box, then submit.
  4. Save the page as a PDF or screenshot. You need the paper-wise marks to decide on verification and a certified copy, and to plan January if a group is left.
  5. Check the merit list link if you want to see whether your roll number is on it.

If the site is slow in the first hours, try again later; the result stays up. Use only caresults.icai.org, not a link from a group chat.

How to read your CA Inter marksheet

Look at the result line for each group first, then the marks. The rules come from ICAI's Guidance Notes for September 2026, paragraphs 7 and 17 (PDF (opens in a new tab)):

What you seeWhat it means
Group result SUCCESSFUL40 or more in each of the group's three papers and 150 or more out of 300 in that group, at one sitting
Both groups SUCCESSFUL, one group under 150, with a "Passed under Regulation" footnotePossible: with 40 in every paper, 300 out of 600 across both groups passes both (ICAI FAQs on Examinations, Q54, PDF (opens in a new tab))
"#" against a paper's marksThat paper is exempt: you wrote every paper of the group, the group failed, and you scored 60 or more in this paper
UNSUCCESSFUL-EXThe group failed but at least one paper is exempt ("#")
UNSUCCESSFUL, no "#"The group failed and nothing carries forward

An exemption is not a pass. It stays for the next three Intermediate exams, and its marks count toward the 150, but you still need 40 in each remaining paper and 150 in the group. Worked marks tables for every case are in CA Inter passing marks and exemption rules.

CA Inter result Sep 2026 pass percentage and AIR 1

CA Inter Sep 2026 pass percentage: 23.14% in Group I, 18.92% in Group II and 13.21% for students who wrote both groups. These are ICAI's own figures, from its press release of 22 October 2026 (opens in a new tab) on icai.org.

Sep 2026AppearedPassedPass %
Group I1,00,30123,21023.14%
Group II68,40012,93818.92%
Both groups38,3395,06613.21%

ICAI says 1,60,887 candidates were admitted to the September 2026 Intermediate exam, held at 583 centres in India and abroad, and that 14,818 candidates in total passed it (ICAI press release, Annexure A, PDF (opens in a new tab)).

Group I at 23.14% is well above every Group I figure in the six earlier attempts below (the best of those was 15.17%, in Sep 2024). Group II at 18.92% and both groups at 13.21% sit inside their usual range.

CA Inter pass percentage: Sep 2026 and the six attempts before it

Every figure below is from ICAI's own press release for that attempt. "Both groups" counts only students who wrote both groups together.

What the trend says: across the six attempts before Sep 2026, Group I has stayed between about 9% and 15%, Group II has swung between about 15% and 27%, and the both-groups figure has never crossed 15%. A pass in Inter is rare in every attempt, so a failed group says more about the exam than about you.

Passed both groups of CA Inter: what next

Congratulations: Intermediate is done, and the next steps are ICITSS and then articleship. ICAI's FAQs say: "After passing both the groups of Intermediate Examination and successfully completing Four Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (ICITSS), you can commence Practical Training." Practical training lasts 2 years (ICAI New Scheme FAQs, Q 5.1 and 5.2, PDF (opens in a new tab)).

The order from here:

  1. ICITSS (4 weeks), which must be done before articleship starts.
  2. Articleship (2 years) with a practising firm.
  3. Final registration, the Self-Paced Online Modules and Advanced ICITSS before you can write CA Final.

The whole route, with ICAI's rule for each step and the Final eligibility dates, is in our CA exam sequence from Foundation to Final. Read ICAI's current rules on its New Scheme page (opens in a new tab) before you register for anything.

Order a certified copy even though you passed. It shows exactly where the examiner gave and cut step marks, and that is the habit CA Final will test hardest.

Passed one group or failed: what next

The next CA Inter exam is January 2027: Group I on 2, 4 and 6 January and Group II on 8, 10 and 12 January (ICAI schedule, PDF (opens in a new tab)). A group you passed in September is done for good; ICAI lets you pass the groups "individually in different sittings" (New Scheme FAQs, Q 3.18, PDF (opens in a new tab)). A paper marked "#" is exempt, so you write only what is left. Which of the three cases is yours, the permanent-exemption window and a dated 10-week plan to 2 January are in CA Inter failed result Sep 2026: what next.

Our CA Inter test series for January 2027 has full-syllabus CA mock tests: you write by hand, upload one PDF and get your copy back within 24 hours with ICAI-style step-wise marks and the reason for every mark cut. CA Inter Sep 2026 verification and certified copies

ICAI's Sep 2026 window for Intermediate runs from 23 October to 21 November 2026, on eservices.icai.org (ICAI, PDF (opens in a new tab)). The rules: you apply online on the Self Service Portal, eservices.icai.org, within a month of the result for verification and within 30 days for certified copies, and "There is no provision for re-valuation of papers" (Guidance Notes, Sept 2026, paras 24 and 25, PDF (opens in a new tab)).

For reference, the May 2026 Intermediate window opened on 25 June 2026 at 11:00 AM, the day after that result, and closed on 23 July 2026 (ICAI, PDF (opens in a new tab)).

  • Verification is a check of your answer book's marks; it is not a re-marking, since ICAI has no re-valuation.
  • A certified copy is a scan of your own checked answer book. For a paper missed by a few marks, it shows exactly where the marks went.
