CA Final 3 months study plan May 2027: weeks and hours
A CA Final 3 months study plan for May 2027 has three phases: about five weeks to finish and consolidate the syllabus, about three weeks of revision with ICAI's RTP and amendments, then three weeks of timed full papers, including ICAI's MTPs, and a last week of revision only. ICAI has not announced the May 2027 exam dates yet, so the weeks below count back from your first paper. In the last May attempt, the first paper was on 2 May; treat "early May" as a working assumption until ICAI publishes the schedule.
This plan assumes you have read most of the syllabus once. If you haven't, the first phase will be tighter, and our CA Final syllabus and paper weightage will help you choose what to cover first.
Is 3 months enough for CA Final?
Yes, if you have already read most of the syllabus once; no, if you are starting six papers from scratch. Three months is enough to revise, update for amendments and write two to three checked full papers per subject. It is not enough to learn the whole syllabus for the first time, because the full-paper phase alone needs the last four weeks.
| Where you start | Is 3 months enough? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Both groups, syllabus read once | Yes, but tight | Follow the plan below; rotate one Group I and one Group II paper a day |
| One group (Group 1 or Group 2), syllabus read once | Yes, with room to spare | Use the spare days for a second revision of your weakest paper |
| Half the syllabus not started | Not for all six papers | Pick one group, or cover ICAI's highest-weight sections first |
| Re-attempt, one group to clear | Usually yes | Start from your mark sheet: the paper below 40% gets the most hours |
Is 3 months enough for CA Final Group 1?
For most students who have read FR, AFM and Audit once, yes. Three papers in twelve weeks leaves room for three full mocks per paper and a second revision of FR, the paper with the most numericals and standards.
Can you clear CA Final both groups in 3 months?
It can be done if all six papers have been studied before. You will fit about two to three full papers per subject, so the weekly plan below matters more than the hours.
Is 4 or 6 months enough for CA Final?
Four to six months gives you time for a proper first reading of the papers you haven't studied, before you start this 12-week plan. If you have six months, use the first three to finish and revise the syllabus, then follow the plan below.
How many hours a day to study for CA Final in 3 months
In this plan, about 8 to 9 focused hours a day for both groups, and 6 to 7 for one group, six days a week. "Focused" means study, writing and checking, not time at the desk. One day a week stays light, for rest and your error log.
The split below is our suggestion for the 11 weeks before the last week, not an ICAI figure. It gives more hours to the papers with more numericals or a wider syllabus. Move hours to your own weak papers.
| Paper | Both groups (hours over 11 weeks) | One group only (hours over 11 weeks) | Why this share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1: Financial Reporting | 110 | 140 | Many Ind AS and long numericals; consolidation needs practice |
| Paper 2: Advanced Financial Management | 90 | 115 | Formula-heavy; speed comes from written practice |
| Paper 3: Advanced Auditing, Assurance and Professional Ethics | 85 | 105 | Mostly theory; SAs and ethics need written answers, not only reading |
| Paper 4: Direct Tax Laws & International Taxation | 105 | 140 | Widest syllabus in Group II, plus amendments for the attempt |
| Paper 5: Indirect Tax Laws | 85 | 115 | GST and customs provisions, plus the Statutory Update |
| Paper 6: Integrated Business Solutions | 45 | 75 | Open book and case based: practise cases, don't re-read |
| Total | about 520 | about 360 (Group I) or 330 (Group II) |
In the last week, add about 40 hours of revision from your error log, amendment notes and formats.

What the change of Act means for Paper 4, and which edition to read, is in our guide to the Income-tax Act 2025 in CA Final.
What the last May attempt looked like
From ICAI's Guidance Notes for Final May 2026 (PDF) (opens in a new tab), Group I ran on 2, 4 and 6 May 2026 and Group II on 8, 10 and 12 May 2026. ICAI's May 2026 RTP was the February 2026 edition (RTP Group I, PDF (opens in a new tab)). MTP Series I ran from 16 to 27 March and Series II from 1 to 13 April 2026 (ICAI MTP schedule, PDF (opens in a new tab)).
So, counted back from a first paper on 2 May, the RTP came out in February, two to three months before; MTP Series I ran about 7 to 5 weeks before, and Series II about 4 to 3 weeks before. That's the pattern this plan is built around. It's last cycle's timing, not a 2027 date, and you should move your weeks the day ICAI publishes the real schedule.
CA Final 3 months study plan at a glance
| Weeks before first paper | Phase | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| 12 to 8 | Study | Finish remaining chapters; first full revision of each paper; a short chapter test after every chapter |
| 7 to 5 | Revise with ICAI | Read the RTP's opening pages and amendments; solve the RTP; write MTP Series I if it falls here; first full mock of each paper |
| 4 to 2 | Full papers | MTP Series II; second and third full mocks; rewrite weak questions from your error log |
| 1 | Revise only | Error log, formats, amendments; one last timed paper early in the week, then rest |
If ICAI's dates shift, keep the order: study, then revise with the RTP, then full papers.
Weeks 12 to 8: study and close the gaps
Goal: by the end of week 8, every chapter of every paper you're writing has been read at least once and revised once.
- List your chapters by weight and by confidence. Use ICAI's section-wise weightage for Papers 1 to 5 (ICAI weightage, PDF (opens in a new tab)). For example, Section III of Financial Reporting (assets and liabilities: Ind AS 2, 16, 116, 23, 36, 38, 40, 105, 19, 37) carries 15% to 25%, and Section II of AFM (security analysis and valuation) carries 20% to 30%. High-weight, low-confidence chapters go first.
- Study two papers a day, not one. One heavy numerical paper (FR, AFM, DT or IDT) in the morning, and a lighter-reading one (Audit, or a theory-heavy part of a tax paper) in the afternoon. That keeps every paper moving.
- Write a short closed-book test after each chapter: a few MCQs and one descriptive question, checked the same day. The point is to find gaps while the chapter is fresh.
- Start your error log now. Columns: paper, question, marks lost, why (concept, misread, calculation, presentation, time), fix. You'll use it in every phase after this.
- Paper 4 for May 2027 is on the Income-tax Act, 2025. Study from the new edition, not from 1961 Act notes.
Both groups
Five weeks for six papers is tight. Rotate one Group I and one Group II paper each day, and give each paper at least four days a week. Keep IBS for the next phase: Paper 6 is open book and case-based, and for November 2026 ICAI listed the core papers' study material among its inputs (study material notice, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Check the May 2027 notice when it is published.
One group
Three papers in five weeks leaves room for a second revision of your weakest paper. Use week 8 for it.
Weeks 7 to 5: revise with ICAI's RTP and amendments
Goal: your notes match the law and standards for May 2027, and you've written one full paper of each subject.
- Read the opening pages of each RTP first. They give the law base and cut-off date for the attempt. For November 2026, the cut-off was 30 April 2026 (RTP Group I, PDF (opens in a new tab)); for May 2026, the FR applicability note used 31 October 2025 (RTP Group I, May 2026, PDF (opens in a new tab)). The May 2027 date will be in the May 2027 RTP. For Paper 5, ICAI's new study material already says the May 2027 Statutory Update will cover notifications and circulars from 1 May 2026 to 31 October 2026 (Paper 5 initial pages, PDF (opens in a new tab)).
- Update your notes with every amendment for the attempt. Our step-by-step method is in how to revise amendments for CA exams.
- Solve the RTP in writing, then check it against ICAI's answers. What the RTP is for, and how it differs from the MTP, is in ICAI RTP and MTP explained.
- Write your first full mock of each paper by hand in 3 hours (4 hours for Paper 6), starting at 2 PM, as in the exam. If MTP Series I falls in these weeks, as it did last May, use it as that first mock. Check it step by step, not just the final figure.
Both groups
Six full papers in three weeks: two a week, each followed by a fix day. Use the remaining days for RTP and amendments.
One group
Three full papers in three weeks, one a week. Use the spare days for a second pass at the RTP questions you got wrong.
Weeks 4 to 2: full papers
Goal: two or three full, timed, checked papers per subject, each one fixed before the next.
- Write MTP Series II on its dates, if ICAI follows last cycle's pattern and it falls here.
- Between MTPs, write mocks you haven't seen before. A paper you've already read tells you nothing about your speed.
- After every paper, rewrite the two or three questions where you lost the most marks, two or three days later, against the clock.
- Practise the time plan. At 3 hours for 100 marks, you have about 1.8 minutes a mark. Our guide to attempting a CA Final paper in 3 hours has a full time plan.
Both groups
The two-day rhythm from our CA Final last 30 days plan works here too: write a paper in the afternoon, fix it the next day, revise the next subject. Three weeks fits about ten full papers this way, so give the third mock to your weakest papers first.
One group
You can fit all three mocks per paper with a revision day after each round.
Week 1: revise, don't learn new
- Revise from your error log, your amendment notes and your formats.
- One last timed paper early in the week to keep your speed, then stop full papers.
- Check your admit card, exam centre and calculator. The rules from the last attempt are in our last 30 days plan; check ICAI's Guidance Notes for May 2027 when they come.
The final six weeks, built around ICAI's free material, are covered week by week in our last 6 weeks CA exam plan.
What to do before the 12 weeks start
If May 2027 starts in early May, week 12 begins around early February. Between now and then:
- Finish your first reading, starting with Papers 4 and 5 from the May 2027 editions.
- Write one full paper in your strongest subject, just to feel 3 hours.
- Set your timeline: our post on when to start a CA Final test series for May 2027 covers when to move from chapter tests to full mocks.
Practising with checked mock tests
To be plain: our live CA Final plans are for November 2026, set to November 2026 applicability. For Group II, that means DT under the Income-tax Act, 1961, which is not the right practice for May 2027.

Frequently asked questions
Is 3 months enough for CA Final?
Yes, if you have read most of the syllabus once and spend most of the three months writing and fixing papers rather than re-reading. It's not enough to learn six papers from scratch; in that case, use ICAI's weightage to choose what to cover first.
How many hours should I study daily for CA Final?
In a 3-month plan, about 8 to 9 focused hours a day for both groups and 6 to 7 for one group, six days a week. The subject-wise split is in the hours table above.
When is the CA Final May 2027 exam?
ICAI hasn't announced it yet. In the last May attempt, CA Final ran from 2 to 12 May 2026 (Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Treat early May as a working assumption, not a date.
When should I start full mock tests for CA Final May 2027?
In this plan, from about week 7 before your first paper, after the syllabus has been studied and revised once. Last May, ICAI's MTP Series I started on 16 March, about seven weeks before the first paper (ICAI MTP schedule, PDF (opens in a new tab)).
Which study material should I follow for CA Final May 2027?
For Papers 4 and 5, the new editions ICAI lists as "Applicable for May 2027 Exam Onwards" (ICAI Final study material (opens in a new tab)). For the other papers, check ICAI's study material notice for May 2027 when it is published.
Should I write both groups in May 2027 with a 3-month plan?
That depends on how much of the syllabus you've already covered. The plan above shows both versions. With both groups, you'll fit two to three full papers per subject before the last week, so start the full-paper phase on time.
