CA Inter Jan 2027 RTP, MTP and past papers: last 6 weeks

· Updated · 9 min read

This CA Inter revision planner for January 2027 covers the last 6 weeks, from 20 November 2026 to the first paper on 2 January 2027: two weeks of RTP-based revision, three weeks of timed full papers, and a final week of light revision. CA Foundation students (first paper 3 January) use the same calendar, with a tighter 1 month strategy in the last four weeks. For a day-by-day chapter plan that starts earlier, on 8 October, see our CA Inter Jan 2027 revision planner.

Quick answer: 20 Nov–3 Dec revise with the RTP · 4–24 Dec write one full paper a day, by hand, in 3 hours (2 hours for Foundation Papers 3 and 4) · 25 Dec–1 Jan revise only from your own mistakes.

Why 20 November? Your exam form should be done by then: ICAI's last date without a late fee is 16 November, and 19 November with a late fee (ICAI schedule, PDF (opens in a new tab)). From the 20th, nothing is left to do except practise.

ICAI's schedule gives dates by group (Inter) and by level (Foundation), not paper by paper, so this planner works the same way. Check the paper-wise order on your admit card when it comes and swap days to match.

If you write both groups, rotate all six papers through weeks 3 and 4: that is 14 days for at least 12 full papers, two per subject. If you write one group, you get four full papers per subject in the same time.

Weeks 1 and 2 (20 Nov–3 Dec): revise with the RTP first

Start with the Revision Test Paper because its opening pages tell you what applies to January 2027. Read those pages for every subject, update your notes, then write the RTP questions, don't just read the answers.

  • Taxation (Paper 3) and Corporate and Other Laws (Paper 2) change most between attempts. Check the cut-off date first.
  • The amendments applicable for this attempt are listed paper by paper in CA Inter amendments for Jan 2027.
  • On 5 October 2026 ICAI's RTP pages had no January 2027 RTPs yet. Find them, when published, on CA Inter RTPs and CA Foundation RTPs.

What an RTP is, and how it differs from an MTP or a Model Test Paper, is covered in ICAI RTP and MTP explained. This post only tells you when to use each one.

Weeks 3 and 4 (4–17 Dec): one full paper a day

This is the core of the planner: one full paper a day, handwritten, in the real 3-hour slot, checked the same evening. Start at 2 PM, the time of your actual exam, so your brain is used to that slot.

  1. Write ICAI's MTPs on the days ICAI sets, if they fall here.
  2. On the other days, write a recent past paper or a Model Test Paper.
  3. Check each paper the same day against the answer key or ICAI's suggested answers.
  4. Log every lost mark in one of four columns: concept, misread question, calculation slip, presentation.

When are the ICAI MTPs for January 2027?

Inter: Series I from 19 to 30 November and Series II from 3 to 14 December 2026, 10 AM to 1 PM (ICAI notice, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Foundation: Series I on 1, 3, 7 and 9 December and Series II on 14, 16, 18 and 21 December 2026, from 2 PM (ICAI notice, PDF (opens in a new tab)). The CA Final cycle runs earlier: its November 2026 MTP Series II ended on 5 October 2026, the day before ICAI's Success at CA Exam BoS sessions for CA Final begin. Paper-wise dates are in our CA Inter and Foundation MTP Jan 2027 schedule; put each MTP in the matching day of this plan and move a past paper out.

Week 5 (18–24 Dec): past papers and examiners' comments

Past papers show how ICAI really asks; examiners' comments show where students lose marks. Write the two most recent past papers for each subject and check them with ICAI's suggested answers.

Week 6 (25 Dec–1 Jan): revise, don't learn new

  • Revise from your notes and your mistake log, not from new books.
  • Re-read the amendments once.
  • One last timed paper around 30 December to keep your speed, then stop.
  • Check your admit card, centre and the reading-time rule: Foundation Papers 3 and 4 have none.

CA Inter study plan for both groups: the gaps between papers

There is one day between each Inter paper (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 January). Use it for that subject's mistake log and one or two sums, not a full paper.

Day beforeDoDon't
Paper day minus 1Your mistake log for the next paper, formats, key provisionsStart a chapter you skipped
Between Group I and II (7 Jan)Switch to Group II notes in the morningRe-check Group I answers

CA Foundation 1 month strategy: the last four weeks

Is 1 month enough for CA Foundation? It is enough to revise and practise if you have studied all four papers once; it is not enough to learn them from scratch. Use weeks 1 and 2 above for the RTP, then this:

DatesPaper 1 Accounting / Paper 2 Business LawsPaper 3 Quantitative Aptitude / Paper 4 Business Economics
4–17 DecTwo full 3-hour papers each, written answersTwo full 2-hour MCQ papers each, on an answer sheet
18–24 DecMost recent past paper eachMost recent past paper each
25 Dec–2 JanRevise formats and provisionsOne timed set of 100 MCQs each

Two rules matter in Foundation:

  • Papers 3 and 4 have negative marking: a wrong answer costs a quarter of a mark. Decide your guessing rule now, in practice, not in the hall. The full working is in CA Foundation exam pattern and marking.
  • Papers 3 and 4 have no reading time, so start answering at 2 PM sharp in every mock.

Foundation's last cycle had MTP Series II running into the exam week. If that happens again, write only the papers before your exam dates and skip the rest.

Four rules for every CA mock test paper

  1. Handwrite it, in full time. Typing or "solving in your head" hides your real speed.
  2. Follow the paper's instructions. Number answers clearly and put working notes inside the answer.
  3. No blank MCQs in Inter: there is no negative marking at that level (CA Inter exam pattern).
  4. Check strictly, step by step. How ICAI gives step marks is in step marking in CA exams.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start revision for CA Inter January 2027?

By 20 November 2026 at the latest, six weeks before the first paper on 2 January. Finish the syllabus once before that; these six weeks are for revision and full papers.

Can I prepare for CA Inter in 1 month?

You can revise for it in 1 month if you have studied every paper once. You cannot study six papers from scratch in a month; in that case, consider writing one group in January.

Can I pass CA Foundation in 1 month?

Only if you have covered the syllabus already. In the last month, write two full papers per subject and check them the same day.

Should I solve the RTP or MTP first?

RTP first, because it tells you the law and amendments for January 2027. MTPs and past papers follow in weeks 3 to 5.

Are the January 2027 MTP dates out?

Yes. Inter MTPs run from 19 November to 14 December 2026 (ICAI notice, PDF (opens in a new tab)) and Foundation MTPs from 1 to 21 December 2026 (ICAI notice, PDF (opens in a new tab)); paper-wise dates are in our MTP Jan 2027 schedule.

Get the papers, then practise

Our checked CA mock tests are live for CA Final and, for January 2027, CA Inter and CA Foundation. For Foundation, ICAI's free papers above fit this plan too, if you check them strictly. When you reach Final, our CA test series checks every line of your handwritten copy.
