Questions before you buy
How hard are the papers?
As hard as the real exam. Each paper follows ICAI’s pattern, marking scheme and difficulty, and together the papers cover every topic, with more weight on the topics that come up most.
How do I send my answer sheet?
Click a photo of each answer page in good light, keep them in order, and combine them into one PDF with Google Drive or any PDF app. Then upload it on the paper’s page.
When do I get my checked copy?
Within 24 hours of uploading, any time of day. You see the expected time as soon as you submit, and the checked copy appears on the paper’s page by itself.
What if my upload fails?
Nothing is used up until your answer sheet is in. If the connection drops, try again from the same page; a submission only counts once the upload finishes.
How long is my access?
180 days from the day you buy, so till 28 Apr 2027 if you buy today. The exact end date stays on My plans.
Can I get a refund?
Plans are non-refundable; payment problems are always fixed or refunded. If money was deducted but the plan didn’t unlock, or you were charged twice, write to us and we’ll sort it out.
Read the refund policyA CA Inter Taxation mock test for Jan 2027 should do what Paper 3 does: make you finish a full income-tax computation under the right regime and a GST liability worked step by step, inside three hours split between two sections. This one is a full 100-mark Paper 3 on ICAI's current pattern, set on the law that applies to January 2027: the Income-tax Act 1961 as amended by the Finance Act 2025, assessment year 2026-27, and GST law up to 30 June 2026. You write it by hand in one sitting, scan your answer sheet and upload one PDF. Your checked copy comes back within 24 hours, with ICAI-style step-wise marks for every question and the reason for every mark cut.
How the whole test series works is on the CA Inter test series page. This page is only about Paper 3; Advanced Accounting, Law and Taxation together are on the CA Inter Group 1 test series page.
CA Inter Taxation paper pattern
From ICAI's Paper 3 of September 2026 (PDF) (opens in a new tab) and the papers before it:
| Section A: Income-tax | Section B: GST | |
|---|---|---|
| Marks | 50 | 50 |
| Part I: MCQs | 7 of 2 marks + 1 of 1 mark (15) | 7 of 2 marks + 1 of 1 mark (15) |
| Part II: descriptive | Q1 (15) compulsory + any 2 of Q2 to Q4 (10 each) | Q5 (15) compulsory + any 2 of Q6 to Q8 (10 each) |
| Usual Question 1 / 5 | Total income and tax of one person | GST payable in cash after input tax credit |
The whole paper is 100 marks in 3 hours, with no negative marking. You must answer in both sections; the choice applies within each. Group I is on 2, 4 and 6 January 2027, each paper from 2 to 5 PM (ICAI schedule, PDF (opens in a new tab)); ICAI has not yet announced which paper falls on which date. All six papers are compared in the CA Inter exam pattern guide.
CA Inter Taxation Jan 2027: which tax law applies
ICAI's study material notice (PDF) (opens in a new tab) sets the July 2025 edition of both sections, plus the RTP and the Statutory Update for January 2027.
| Section A: Income-tax | Section B: GST | |
|---|---|---|
| Law | Income-tax Act 1961, as amended by the Finance Act 2025 | CGST and IGST Acts, as amended by the Finance Act 2025 |
| Year | Assessment year 2026-27 | |
| Cut-off | Notifications and circulars up to 30 June 2026 | Notifications and circulars effective up to 30 June 2026 |
| Source | Section A study material, opening pages (PDF) (opens in a new tab) | Section B study material, opening pages (PDF) (opens in a new tab) |
The Income-tax Act 2025 is not on your paper. ICAI applies it to Inter from the May 2027 exams (ICAI news). The September 2026 paper used an older cut-off, 28 February 2026. For January 2027, ICAI has published the Statutory Update (PDF) (opens in a new tab) and the Paper 3 RTP (PDF) (opens in a new tab) on boslive.icai.org: income tax and GST apply as amended up to 30 June 2026. ICAI's RTPs are also linked on our CA Inter RTP page. How to read applicability is in what's applicable for your CA attempt.
CA Inter Taxation: where the marks sit
ICAI does not publish a chapter-wise split for Paper 3. In the last four papers (September 2025 to September 2026), the same blueprint held:
| Question | What it has tested |
|---|---|
| Q1 (15) | Total income and tax liability, often under both regimes, with 8 to 12 adjustments |
| Q2 to Q4 (6 + 4 each) | Residence and scope; salary with another head; set-off and carry forward; TDS/TCS; returns |
| Q5 (10 + 5) | Net GST payable in cash, item by item, then input tax credit set-off |
| Q6 to Q8 (5 + 5 each) | Supply, place of supply, exemptions, value, time of supply, registration, e-way bill, returns |
| OR | One 4-mark income-tax part and one 5-mark GST part |
Revision order for both sections is in the CA Inter revision planner for Jan 2027.
CA Inter Taxation: where students lose marks
ICAI's examiners' comments on recent Paper 3 copies keep pointing at the same slips:
- Default regime bars: allowing additional depreciation or a house property loss that section 115BAC doesn't allow.
- Regime figures: wrong standard deduction, family pension deduction or 80CCD(2) limit for the regime chosen.
- Capital gains around 23 July 2024: wrong rate, exemption or surcharge on long-term gains.
- AY versus PY: mixing up the year in return and TDS limits; section 194A versus 194J.
- GST: composite versus mixed supply; reverse charge and the 180-day rule for input tax credit; the monthly test in Rule 86B.
A mock catches these only if every step is checked. Our step marking guide shows how ICAI gives marks for each step.
CA Inter Taxation mock test: how to use it
Timing plan for 3 hours. Give each section about 90 minutes. In each, spend about 25 minutes on the eight MCQs, about 30 minutes on the compulsory question and about 15 minutes on each of the two you choose, keeping 5 minutes to check. In Question 5, write the tax for each item with a one-line reason, as the paper asks.
When to write it. Once you have revised both sections, and well before 1 January: Group I comes first, with one day between papers. Write it from 2 PM, by hand, in one sitting, and go through the checked copy before the next mock. The dated calendar is in the CA Inter mock test plan for Jan 2027. ICAI's RTP, MTPs and past papers are on our CA Inter free resources page.
