CA Inter Jan 2027 mock test: when to write all 3 per paper
For the CA Inter Jan 2027 mock test plan, write three full 3-hour mocks per paper: the first after your first revision (second half of November), the second in early December, and the third in the last ten days of December, group by group and at 2 PM. Check every copy before you write the next mock in that subject. Group I starts on 2 January 2027 and Group II on 8 January, so the last mock should be done by about 29 December.
That leaves about twelve weeks from early October. This guide gives you a dated calendar, what each of the six papers looks like (so your mock copies it), where ICAI's own Mock Test Papers fit, and how to turn a checked copy into marks. The exam dates come from ICAI's January 2027 schedule (PDF) (opens in a new tab).
CA Inter Jan 2027 mock test: the dates you are working back from
| What | Date (ICAI) |
|---|---|
| Group I papers | 2, 4 and 6 January 2027 |
| Group II papers | 8, 10 and 12 January 2027 |
| Timing, every paper | 2 to 5 PM, reading time from 1:45 PM |
| Exam form (ICAI Self Service Portal) | 3 to 16 November 2026 without late fee |
| ICAI MTP Series I and II for January 2027 | Series I 19–30 November, Series II 3–14 December 2026 (ICAI notice, PDF (opens in a new tab)) |
There is only one day between papers inside a group, so there is no time for full mocks once the exam starts. Every full-length practice paper has to be written before 1 January. All the dates are in CA Foundation and Inter January 2027 exam dates.
When to write each CA Inter mock test before January 2027
Mock 1 checks your first revision, Mock 2 checks your weak chapters, Mock 3 is a dress rehearsal.
| Window | What to do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Now to 15 Nov | Finish the first full revision of every paper; practise MCQ case sets chapter by chapter | A full mock needs the whole syllabus; ICAI's LVRC revision classes start on 12 October (our LVRC note) |
| 16 to 30 Nov | Mock 1 of each paper, one paper every two days | Shows which chapters and habits cost marks while there is still time to fix them |
| 1 to 16 Dec | Mock 2 of each paper, plus ICAI's MTPs when they come | Tests whether the fixes from Mock 1 worked |
| 18 to 29 Dec | Mock 3 of each paper, group by group, 2 to 5 PM | Rehearses the real sequence and the afternoon slot |
| 30 Dec to 1 Jan | No new full papers; rewrite the answers your error log flags | Fresh mistakes now only shake confidence |
Writing one group: three papers × three mocks = nine papers, each followed by a day of checking. That fits comfortably.
Writing both groups: eighteen papers is tight. Keep two days per paper (one to write, one to check), and if December slips, drop Mock 2 in your strongest subjects, never Mock 3. Which chapters to revise on which date before each mock is in our CA Inter revision planner for January 2027. Which chapters to put first in each paper, counted from ICAI's last four papers, is in CA Inter chapter wise weightage for Jan 2027.
Write each group back to back in the last round. Group I is Advanced Accounting, Corporate and Other Laws and Taxation; Group II is Cost and Management Accounting, Auditing and Ethics, and FM and SM. Write a group's three papers with one day between each, as in January. When ICAI publishes the paper-wise timetable, copy its order exactly. To pass a group you need 40 in each of its three papers and 150 out of 300 in total, at one sitting; the full rule, with marks tables and how a 60-mark exemption carries forward, is in CA Inter passing marks Jan 2027.
CA Inter mock test papers: what each paper looks like
A mock is only useful if it matches the paper you'll get. Every CA Inter paper is 100 marks in 3 hours: Part I is 30 marks of MCQs with no negative marking and Part II is 70 marks of descriptive questions. The details differ by paper, and a good mock copies them. This table is built from ICAI's September 2026, May 2026 and January 2026 papers; the full breakdown is in CA Inter exam pattern Jan 2027.
| Paper | Part I (30 marks) | Part II (70 marks) | Where the OR sits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Advanced Accounting | 15 MCQs × 2, mostly in 3 case scenarios | 6 × 14: Q1 compulsory + any 4 | Q6(a), theory vs short numerical |
| 2. Corporate and Other Laws | 15 MCQs × 2, all case-based, each case on one Act | 6 × 14, each (a) 5 + (b) 5 + (c) 4 | One (a) part |
| 3. Taxation | 16 MCQs: per section, seven × 2 and one × 1 | Section A (income tax) and B (GST), 35 each: Q1/Q5 compulsory + any 2 of 3 | Q4(b) in Section A; usually Q8(b) in Section B |
| 4. Cost and Management Accounting | 15 MCQs × 2: two case scenarios + 5 independent | 6 × 14: Q1 compulsory + any 4 | Q6(c) |
| 5. Auditing and Ethics | 15 MCQs × 2: 12 in cases, 3 stand-alone | 6 × 14, each (a) 5 + (b) 5 + (c) 4 | Q6(c) |
| 6. FM and SM | 16 MCQs: per section, seven × 2 and one × 1 | Section A (FM) and B (SM), 35 each: Q1/Q5 compulsory + any 2 of 3 | Q4(c) in FM; Q8(b) in SM |
What this means for your mock:
- Papers 3 and 6 are two half-papers. Budget 90 minutes per section, MCQs included, or one section eats the other.
- Read the whole case once, then answer all its MCQs. That's how Part I is built in every paper.
- Decide your OR and your "any 4" in reading time. Swapping a question halfway through is the most expensive mistake in a CA Inter paper.
For tax, check the law your mock is set on. An old mock can test you on provisions that have since changed; see what's applicable for your CA attempt. Which assessment year applies to Paper 3, how its income tax and GST halves are set, and the 14 traps ICAI's examiners flagged are in CA Inter Taxation mock test Jan 2027.

CA Intermediate mock test series schedule: ICAI's MTPs
ICAI's MTPs for January 2027: Series I runs from 19 to 30 November 2026 and Series II from 3 to 14 December 2026, 10 AM to 1 PM (ICAI notice of 14 October 2026, PDF (opens in a new tab)); paper-wise dates are in our MTP schedule post.
If this cycle follows a similar shape, Series I lands in the Mock 1 window and Series II in the Mock 2 window. ICAI doesn't check MTPs for you; it publishes answers and you self-assess. Our MTP self-checking method shows how.
How to write a CA Inter mock test at home
- Start at 1:45 PM. Read for 15 minutes, choose your questions, write nothing. Write from 2 to 5 PM in one sitting.
- Write by hand on numbered sheets, each answer on a fresh page, question number at the top.
- Put your MCQ answers as a list on page 1 (for example "7 – C"), the way you'd fill the cover sheet.
- Use only the calculator you'll carry, keep your phone in another room, and take no breaks.
How to use a checked copy of your CA Inter mock test
Writing the paper shows where you stand. Checking it is what moves your marks. Check the same day or the next, before the next mock in that subject.
- MCQs first. Mark them against the key and note which ones you guessed right; a lucky guess is still a gap.
- Each descriptive answer step by step, not just the final figure. ICAI gives marks for correct steps; see step marking in CA exams.
- Log every lost mark in one line: paper, question, cause (concept, misread, calculation, presentation, time) and the fix. Check your log against the mistakes ICAI's examiners reported in ICAI examiner comments for CA Inter May 2026.
- Rewrite, don't re-read. Close the solution and rewrite your two costliest answers, timed, the next day.
- Revise only the chapters the log exposed before the next mock in that subject, from ICAI's own modules; the January 2027 edition of each paper is linked on our CA Inter study material page.
A worked mini-example
Say you score 48 in your first Taxation mock. The log shows: 7 marks lost because GST took 110 minutes and income tax got 70; 5 to missing working notes; 4 to an OR you switched halfway; 4 to two MCQs on a concept you hadn't revised. Only the last 4 are "syllabus" marks. The other 16 come from time, presentation and choice, which a clock split of 90 + 90 minutes and a choose-in-reading-time rule fix before Mock 2. (Example written by us to show the method.)

Frequently asked questions
How many mock tests should I write for CA Inter Jan 2027?
Three full mocks per paper is a workable target: one after your first revision, one in early December, one in the last ten days of December. Add ICAI's two MTP series if you have the days, but never at the cost of checking each copy.
When will ICAI release the CA Inter MTP for January 2027?
Series I runs from 19 to 30 November 2026 and Series II from 3 to 14 December 2026, 10 AM to 1 PM (ICAI notice of 14 October 2026, PDF (opens in a new tab)); paper-wise dates are in CA Inter MTP Jan 2027 schedule.
Are CA Inter mock test papers free?
ICAI's MTPs, RTPs and past papers are free on its BoS Knowledge Portal; we link them paper-wise on our CA Inter free resources page. ICAI's suggested answers for the last four attempts, paper by paper, are in CA Inter suggested answers May 2026 PDF. You check those yourself. A paid test series adds new papers and a checked copy.
What is CA Inter mock test Series 1 and Series 2?
They are ICAI's two rounds of Mock Test Papers for each attempt. Series I comes first and Series II a few weeks later, both on the full syllabus and the current pattern, with answers published for self-checking.
Should I write mocks during the exam days?
No. With one day between papers, use that day to revise the next paper from your error log and short notes. Every full mock should be done by about 29 December.
