CA Final FR chapter-wise weightage & ABC analysis Nov 2026
Quick answer: in ICAI's last four CA Final FR papers, four areas came up every single time: group accounting (18–25 marks printed per paper, always the compulsory Question 1), financial instruments (12–16), Ind AS 115 (7, every time) and Ind AS 101 (2–7). Together that is 192 of the 456 marks ICAI printed across the four papers, about 42%. Revise these first, then the B list below. FR is on Monday, 2 November 2026, so you have about four weeks.
ICAI publishes FR weightage only by section, as a percentage range. It does not publish chapter-wise marks. So we went through ICAI's four most recent FR papers (May 2025, September 2025, January 2026 and May 2026), question by question, and tagged each one to the Ind AS it actually tested. Every paper is linked below, so you can check any line yourself.
How to read these numbers
Each FR paper prints 114 marks, but you answer only 100:
- Part I: 15 MCQs of 2 marks each, most of them case-based, so 30 marks, all compulsory and with no negative marking. ICAI's Mock Test Papers for Nov 2026 have 23 MCQs instead (16 of 1 mark, 7 of 2 marks), still 30 marks.
- Part II: six questions of 14 marks each. Question 1 is compulsory, and you answer any four of the other five.
So when we say "Ind AS 19 had 8 marks", we mean 8 marks printed on the paper. If it sat in a question you could skip, you might never have written it. Keep that in mind for the B and C lists.
Our sources are ICAI's own suggested answers for Paper 1:
- May 2025 (PDF) (opens in a new tab)
- September 2025 (PDF) (opens in a new tab)
- January 2026 (PDF) (opens in a new tab)
- May 2026 (PDF) (opens in a new tab)
Tagging a question to an Ind AS is our own reading. Where a question mixes standards, we've named the main one. For example, May 2026's MCQ on selling a foreign subsidiary is counted under group accounting, not Ind AS 21, and May 2025's MCQ on valuing flats (land moved into stock) under Ind AS 2.
CA Final FR chapter-wise weightage: the last 4 papers

| Ind AS 2 Inventories | 9 | 2 | – | – | 2 of 4 |
| Ind AS 7 Cash flows | 2 | 4 | 2 | – | 3 of 4 |
The rest of each paper went to smaller items. Ind AS 1, 8, 37, 38 and 40 had 2–6 marks across the four papers. Ind AS 12, 41 and 108 each came up once. The theory sub-question, Q5(c), was set on the Conceptual Framework, Ind AS 1 or the Ind AS framework under the Companies Act, always as an either/or. Ind AS 24 wasn't the subject of any question in these four papers.
Three things stand out:
- Question 1 has been group accounting every time. May 2025 asked for an opening consolidated balance sheet under Ind AS 103. September 2025 and January 2026 asked for a consolidated balance sheet. May 2026 asked for Ind AS 103 journal entries plus a consolidated balance sheet. It is compulsory and worth 14 marks.
- Question 2(a), for 10 marks, has been financial instruments every time. The four were a loan modification, a convertible instrument, an interest-free loan and convertible debentures.
- Question 5 has a fixed shape. Q5(a) was Ind AS 115 for 5 marks in all four papers. Q5(b) was Ind AS 101 in the last three. Q5(c) was a 4-mark either/or theory question.
None of this is an ICAI rule, and the paper can change. But four papers in a row is a pattern you should practise for, and it is exactly what the compulsory question rewards.
Question by question: which Ind AS ICAI set
| Question (marks) | May 2025 | Sep 2025 | Jan 2026 | May 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 (14, compulsory) | Ind AS 103, opening consolidated balance sheet | Ind AS 110, consolidated balance sheet | Ind AS 110, consolidated balance sheet | Ind AS 103 entries and consolidated balance sheet |
| Q2(a) (10) | Ind AS 109, loan modification | Ind AS 32/109, convertible instrument | Ind AS 109, interest-free loan | Ind AS 32, convertible debentures |
| Q2(b) (4) | Ind AS 34 | Ind AS 7 (foreign exchange items) | Ind AS 1, loan classification | Ind AS 34 |
| Q3(a) (8–10) | Ind AS 36, CGU | Ind AS 19 | Ind AS 16, cost of machine | Ind AS 116, manufacturer lessor (10) |
| Q3(b) (4–6) | Ind AS 33 | Ind AS 33 | Ind AS 12 | Ind AS 108 (4) |
| Q4(a) (6) | Ind AS 16, revaluation | Ind AS 23 | Ind AS 105/16 | Ind AS 19 |
| Q4(b) (8) | Ind AS 102, SARs | Ind AS 21 | Ind AS 20 | Ind AS 20 |
| Q5(a) (5) | Ind AS 115 | Ind AS 115 | Ind AS 115 | Ind AS 115 |
| Q5(b) (5) | Ind AS 111, with 16/37 | Ind AS 101 | Ind AS 101 | Ind AS 101 |
| Q5(c) (4, either/or) | Ind AS 1 / Framework | Ind AS 1 / Framework | Need for Ind AS / Companies Act | Conceptual Framework |
| Q6(a) (5) | Technology (blockchain) | Technology | Ethics | Technology (cloud) |
| Q6(b) (5) | Ind AS 2, by-products | Ind AS 36, value in use | Ind AS 19 | Ind AS 23 |
| Q6(c) (4) | Valuation, Ind AS 113 | Ind AS 8, errors | Valuation, market and income approach | Ind AS 113, principal market |
In the MCQs, group accounting took 4–8 marks per paper (two to four MCQs), and Ind AS 101 had one MCQ in three of the four papers. Ind AS 115 had one MCQ in every paper. One MCQ in each paper was on ethics or technology.
What ICAI's official section-wise weightage says
ICAI's section-wise weightage for Paper 1 (PDF) (opens in a new tab) applies "till further changes are made" and allows a deviation of up to ±5%. In short:
- Section VI, business combinations and consolidated and separate financial statements: 10%–20%. The papers above match this at the top end.
- Section V, financial instruments: 10%–15%.
- Section III, assets and liabilities (Ind AS 2, 16, 116, 23, 36, 38, 40, 105, 19 and 37): 15%–25%. This is the largest range on paper. Its marks are spread over ten standards, so no single one dominates. That's why Ind AS 116 can sit out three papers and then take 10 marks.
- Section VIII, ethics, and technology and accounting: 5%–10%. That is Q6(a), every time.
We've set out the full eight-section table in our CA Final FR preparation strategy, and every paper's ranges in CA Final syllabus and paper weightage, so we won't repeat them here. The same chapter-wise count for the other papers is in our AFM, Audit, DT and IDT chapter-wise weightage guides.
What's in and out for November 2026
From ICAI's RTP for November 2026, Group I (PDF) (opens in a new tab):
- Study material: November 2024 edition (Reprint August 2025 and onwards).
- Cut-off: amendments and limited revisions "issued up to 30th April, 2026" apply. That includes the Ind AS changes of 7 May 2025 (Ind AS 21, lack of exchangeability) and 13 August 2025 (Ind AS 1 covenants, supplier finance disclosures under Ind AS 7 and 107, and Ind AS 12 Pillar Two).
- Excluded: Ind AS 117 Insurance Contracts, as an industry-specific standard. Limited revisions to other Ind AS made because of it still apply.
- Topic-wise exclusions listed in the RTP: Ind AS 16 Appendix B (stripping costs), Ind AS 37 Appendices A and B, and Ind AS 29, 106 and 114.
Amendments are where a "low-weight" standard turns into marks. Ind AS 21 and Ind AS 12 look small in the table above, but both have 2025 amendments that ICAI covers in this RTP. How to revise them quickly is in how to revise amendments for CA exams, and the attempt-by-attempt cut-offs are in what's applicable for your CA attempt.
ABC analysis for CA Final FR, November 2026
This is our priority order, built from the four papers and ICAI's ranges. It isn't an ICAI list.
| Tier | Ind AS / area | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A: revise first, practise in full | Group accounting (103, 110, 28, 111) · Financial instruments (32, 109, 107) · Ind AS 115 · Ind AS 101 | Asked in all 4 papers. Q1 and Q2(a) have been these every time. Together, about 42% of printed marks. |
| B: revise, practise one long question each | Ind AS 19, 33, 36, 20, 21, 113, 34, 7, 16, 105, 102, 23, 116 · Technology and ethics (Q6(a)) | Asked in 2–4 papers (Ind AS 116 once, for 10 marks), often as 6–10 mark sub-questions. Section III's range keeps 116, 105 and 23 live. |
| C: concepts, formats and the RTP questions | Ind AS 1, 2, 8, 10, 12, 24, 37, 38, 40, 41, 108 · Conceptual Framework | Usually 2–6 marks, or one MCQ. But Ind AS 1, 7, 12 and 21 carry 2025 amendments, so do those RTP questions. |
C doesn't mean skip. A 2-mark MCQ is as easy to lose as to win, and there is no negative marking. Every C topic is fair game for one of the MCQs.
A worked example: the EPS trap from May 2026
MCQ 13 in May 2026 (PDF) (opens in a new tab) gave:
- 10,00,000 shares
- 2,000 bonds of ₹100 at 10%, each convertible into 20 shares
- Profit after tax of ₹23,25,000
- Tax at 25%
It asked for diluted EPS.
| Step | Working |
|---|---|
| Interest saved on conversion | 2,000 × ₹100 × 10% = ₹20,000 |
| After tax at 25% | ₹20,000 × 75% = ₹15,000 |
| Adjusted earnings | ₹23,25,000 + ₹15,000 = ₹23,40,000 |
| Shares | 10,00,000 + (2,000 × 20) = 10,40,000 |
| Diluted EPS | ₹23,40,000 ÷ 10,40,000 = ₹2.25 |
ICAI's answer is (B), ₹2.25. Option (A) was ₹2.325, which is simply basic EPS (₹23,25,000 ÷ 10,00,000). It is there for anyone who forgets to adjust both the earnings and the shares. Expect options built from a skipped step, and work every MCQ through to the end. A B-list standard with a 2-mark MCQ still needs every step.
A four-week FR revision order
Our suggestion for the time to 2 November:
- This week: A-list, by writing. Do one full consolidation in Schedule III format with notes, timed at about 30 minutes. Then do one Ind AS 109 amortised-cost table and one compound instrument split.
- Next week: Q5 drills. Write one Ind AS 115 question (5-step model, variable consideration, contract modification) and one Ind AS 101 transition question every other day.
- Week 3: B-list sweep. Do one long question each from Ind AS 19, 20, 21, 36 and 116, and an EPS question with options and convertibles.
- Last week: C-list, amendments and MCQs. Revise the RTP amendment questions, the Q6(a) theory on technology and ethics, and 15 MCQs a day from ICAI's MTPs and past papers.
Fit one full FR mock in each of the first three weeks. A mock shows you which of these lists you actually lose marks in. Our CA Final last 30 days mock test plan shows how to slot FR around AFM and Audit.
What examiners cut marks for in FR (book values instead of fair values, missing notes, journal entries left out) is in ICAI examiners' comments. How ICAI marks workings step by step is in step marking in CA exams.
Frequently asked questions
Which chapters are most important in CA Final FR for November 2026?
On ICAI's last four papers: group accounting (Ind AS 103 and 110 with 28 and 111), financial instruments (Ind AS 32 and 109), Ind AS 115 and Ind AS 101. All four came up every time, and together they took about 42% of the printed marks (192 of 456).
Does ICAI publish chapter-wise weightage for FR?
No. ICAI publishes section-wise weightage (PDF) (opens in a new tab) as percentage ranges across eight sections, with ±5% deviation allowed. Any chapter-wise figure, including ours, is counted from past papers.
Is consolidation always Question 1 in CA Final FR?
There's no ICAI rule saying so. But Question 1, compulsory and worth 14 marks, was a group accounting question in all four papers from May 2025 to May 2026.
Can I skip Ind AS 116 because it came only once?
We wouldn't. It took 10 marks in May 2026, and it sits in Section III, ICAI's largest range at 15%–25%. Low frequency in four papers isn't low weight.
Is Ind AS 117 in the syllabus for November 2026?
No. ICAI's November 2026 RTP excludes it as an industry-specific standard. Limited revisions to other Ind AS made because of it still apply.
Find out which tier costs you marks
A weightage table tells you where the marks are. Only a checked paper tells you where you lose them. Our CA Final FR mock tests, part of our CA mock test series, are full-syllabus papers on ICAI's current pattern: 30% MCQs and 70% descriptive, 100 marks in 3 hours. Every chapter is covered across the mocks, with more weight on the most-asked, and every amendment applicable for November 2026 is tested.
You write by hand and upload one PDF. Your checked copy comes back within 24 hours, with ICAI-style step-wise marks and the reason for every mark cut. It also shows the correct line to write, so you can see whether you're losing marks on the A list or on presentation.
FR is the first paper of CA Final Group I, so it has to be ready first. You can read preview pages of the first mock before you buy. ICAI's own past papers and RTPs are on our CA Final past year question papers page.
