CA Inter Advanced Accounting mock test Jan 2027: AS-wise map

· 12 min read

A good CA Inter Advanced Accounting mock test for Jan 2027 is built around the Accounting Standards, because ICAI's Paper 1 is. Across the three Paper 1s ICAI set in 2026 (January, May, September), nine standards came up every single time: AS 2, 3, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20 and 21. The other AS rotate between the MCQ case scenarios and the compulsory Question 1. Below: the AS-by-AS map, one AS sum worked from ICAI's own answer, and what ICAI's examiners said students got wrong.

Group I starts on 2 January 2027. Each Inter paper runs 2 to 5 PM, and the 15 minutes before it, from 1:45 PM, are for reading, according to ICAI's January 2027 exam notification (PDF) (opens in a new tab). That notification gives group dates only; if ICAI keeps the papers in number order, as it did in September 2026, Paper 1 is the first of them.

What a CA Inter Advanced Accounts mock test paper must copy

ICAI's three 2026 papers were built the same way:

PartWhat ICAI setWhat your mock should have
Part I, 30 marks15 MCQs of 2 marks, most of them in three case scenariosA case where one company's facts test 3 to 5 different AS
Question 1, 14 marks, compulsoryThree AS questions, about 5 + 5 + 4 marksThree different standards, each a short computation
Questions 2 to 6, any four, 14 marks eachAmalgamation, consolidation, cash flow, Schedule III, reconstruction or buy-backAt least one full AS 14 and one full AS 21 question
Question 6An OR in 6(a), branch accounts in 6(c)One theory-or-numerical choice, one branch question

ICAI's instructions on the paper also say: "Working notes should form part of the answer." The marks for each part, paper by paper, are in CA Inter exam pattern Jan 2027.

CA Inter Advanced Accounting accounting standards: where each AS came in 2026

ICAI's syllabus lists 27 standards for Paper 1 (AS 1 to AS 29, without AS 6 and AS 8), plus the Framework, in Section I, which carries 55% to 65% of the paper (ICAI section-wise weightage, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Here is where each one was actually tested. The question numbers come from ICAI's January 2026 answers (PDF) (opens in a new tab), May 2026 answers (PDF) (opens in a new tab) and September 2026 paper (PDF) (opens in a new tab). The September paper is a scan, so its question numbers are our reading of the page images, and the AS tagging in all three is ours.

What the map tells you

  1. The two big statements never move. AS 21 was Question 5 all three times and AS 14 was a full 14-mark question all three times. With their MCQs, they are about a quarter of the marks printed, as counted in our chapter-by-chapter marks table for Paper 1.
  2. Question 1 is where the smaller AS live. AS 10, 15, 16 and 20 each took a Question 1 part in two of the three papers, and AS 25, AS 28 and AS 19 in one each. Expect three standards you didn't prepare as "big chapters".
  3. The MCQ cases mix standards. September 2026's first case alone tested AS 11, 12, 15 and 29 on one company.
  4. AS 2 is quiet but constant: an MCQ every time, never a long question.

A worked AS 25 question, checked against ICAI's answer

AS 25 came in January 2026 as an MCQ and in May 2026 as both an MCQ and Question 1(c). ICAI's examiners wrote that in Q1(c) "many examinees were unable to correctly calculate the weighted average annual effective tax rate." Here is that question, with the figures and method from ICAI's May 2026 suggested answer (PDF) (opens in a new tab).

Facts: estimated income for 2025-26 is Rs 5,00,000, Rs 1,25,000 a quarter, including a capital gain of Rs 1,00,000 in the second quarter. Capital gains are taxed at 20%; other income at 35% on the first Rs 2,00,000 and 40% on the rest.

Step 1: total tax for the year.

ItemRs
20% on capital gain of 1,00,00020,000
35% on the first 2,00,000 of other income70,000
40% on the remaining 2,00,00080,000
Total tax expense1,70,000

Step 2: the weighted average rate, for other income only. 1,50,000 ÷ 4,00,000 = 37.5%. The capital gain keeps its own 20% rate; that is the trap. ICAI's answer cites para 29 of AS 25: tax in each interim period is based on the best estimate of the weighted average annual rate for the full year.

Step 3: tax for each quarter.

QuarterWorkingTax (Rs)
Q11,25,000 × 37.5%46,875
Q21,00,000 × 20% + 25,000 × 37.5%29,375
Q31,25,000 × 37.5%46,875
Q41,25,000 × 37.5%46,875
Total1,70,000

The quarters add back to the annual 1,70,000; if yours don't, the rate is wrong.

Check yourself on January 2026's MCQ 8: quarterly profits of Rs 7, 8, 4 and 6 lakh, tax at 30% on the first Rs 5 lakh and 40% above it. The year's tax is Rs 9.5 lakh on Rs 25 lakh, a 38% rate, so the second quarter's tax is 8,00,000 × 38% = Rs 3,04,000: option (C) in ICAI's answer key.

AS 10: what goes into the cost, from May 2026 Q1(b)

The examiners said "many examinees committed errors in determining the cost of the machine by incorrectly including the supplier's interest on deferred credit and expenditure incurred after the asset was ready for its intended use." ICAI's answer sorted the costs like this:

Cost itemICAI's treatment
Purchase price, less the GST credit availableIn the cost
Site preparation, architect's fees for set-upIn the cost
Labour, only the 200 of 500 hours spent on installationIn the cost
Supervisor's salary, only the 25% spent on installationIn the cost
Test run and experimental productionIn the cost
Depreciation on assets used for installationIn the cost
Interest to the supplier for deferred creditOut: charged to profit and loss
Costs after the machine was ready (Rs 10,800 for the delay)Out: charged to profit and loss

That gives a capitalised cost of Rs 8,10,000 and six months' depreciation of Rs 40,500. The question then moved to AS 28, where the impairment loss is set first against the revaluation reserve and only the rest goes to profit and loss.

May 2026 examiner comments for Paper 1, AS by AS

CA Inter Advanced Accounting important topics for Jan 2027

From the map and the examiners' notes, in order:

  1. AS 14 and AS 21 as full questions, with working notes for purchase consideration, goodwill or capital reserve, minority interest and unrealised profit.
  2. AS 3 as a full statement, because it came both as a long question and as an MCQ case.
  3. The Question 1 standards as 5-mark sums: AS 10 with 28, 15, 16, 19, 20 and 25, about 9 minutes each.
  4. The quiet constants for the MCQ cases: AS 2, 11, 12, 13, 23 and 29. Know the rule and one number for each.
  5. Branch accounts for Question 6(c), plus internal reconstruction and buy-back, which shared the company-accounts questions.

The dates to give each of these, alongside Law and Taxation, are set out day by day in the Group I and Group II revision planner.

After each mock, tag every lost mark with its standard; an AS that costs you twice goes to the top of next week, whatever its weightage. The windows for Mocks 1, 2 and 3 before 2 January are in our three-mock calendar for CA Inter.

Study from the right book. For the January 2027 attempt, ICAI's notice on applicable study material (PDF) (opens in a new tab) names the Advanced Accounting edition of July 2024 (Reprint August 2025 and onwards), plus the RTP for January 2027. The edition for each of the six papers is listed in our Jan 2027 study material and amendments post.

Our CA Inter Advanced Accounting mock test series
