CA test series evaluation: how CA Final paper checking works
CA test series evaluation should hand back your handwritten CA Final answer sheet checked question by question: step-wise marks, the reason for every mark cut and the line you should have written instead, quickly enough to fix it before your next paper. A total out of 100 on its own is a score, not evaluation.
That matters most right now. With the November 2026 exam weeks away, each mock you write is worth only as much as the checking you get back. This guide covers what evaluation should show, how paper checking works step by step, how ICAI checks the real exam, and how to turn a checked copy into marks.
CA test series evaluation: what it should show
A useful checked copy answers one question: where exactly did my marks go? Here is what it should contain, and why.
| What you get back | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Marks for every question and sub-part | Shows which questions, not just which papers, cost you |
| Step-wise marks inside each answer | Shows which step lost the mark: format, working note, provision, application, conclusion |
| A reason for every mark cut | "Wrong" teaches nothing. "Depreciation not added back to cash flow" tells you what to fix |
| The correct line to write | So you can rewrite the answer the right way, not just know it was wrong |
| Comments on presentation and working notes | ICAI's examiners mark these down every attempt |
| Reasoning for each MCQ | A wrong option usually means a missed fact in the case; you need to know which one |
| Fast turnaround | A copy that comes back after your next paper can't change how you write it |
A weak comment and a useful one
Illustration written by us on a made-up Financial Reporting answer. It is not a real student's copy.
| Weak evaluation | Useful evaluation |
|---|---|
| "Incomplete. 8/14" | "Q2(a): 8/14. Ind AS treatment correct (+4). Journal entries correct (+4). Working note for deferred tax missing, so the figure in the note can't be traced (−2): add 'WN 3: Deferred tax' showing temporary difference × rate. Conclusion on balance-sheet presentation not written (−2). Part (ii) explanation not attempted (−2)." |
The first tells you that you did badly. The second tells you what to do differently tomorrow.
CA Final paper checking: how it works, step by step
Good CA Final paper checking follows the same path every time: you write by hand in exam time, upload once, and every answer is marked step by step against a model answer, with a reason for each cut. Here is how it runs in our CA test series, so you know what to expect.
| Step | What happens | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Write | You write the full paper by hand, in the full 3 hours (4 for IBS) | Sit it like the exam: one sitting, no notes |
| 2. Upload | You scan and upload one PDF of your answer sheet. One submission per paper | Check every page is in order and readable |
| 3. Check | Every line of the answer sheet is checked on 50+ parameters | Nothing; start on the next subject |
| 4. Mark | ICAI-style step-wise marks, with the reason for every mark cut and the correct line to write | — |
| 5. Analyse | A question-wise analysis of concept, presentation and working notes | — |
| 6. Result | Your checked copy comes back within 24 hours, with detailed suggested answers (provisions, working notes, MCQ reasoning) | Read it the same day; see "How to use a checked copy" below |
Two rules keep it honest. You get one submission per paper, like the real exam, so you can't keep rewriting until the marks look good. And we check our own papers only: full-syllabus mocks in every subject, with brand-new questions on the latest ICAI pattern and every amendment applicable for November 2026.
Why handwriting matters for paper checking
ICAI marks a handwritten booklet, so format, layout and working notes are part of your marks. Typed answers or answers "checked in your head" hide exactly the mistakes examiners cut for. For how to set out an answer, see how to write answers in the CA exam.
How are CA papers checked by ICAI?
ICAI checks CA exam papers step by step, records marks per step on the answer book, and does not publish its marking scheme. What ICAI has said in public (suggested answers "do not constitute the basis for evaluation", marks are recorded step-wise, and there is no re-evaluation) is covered, with two worked examples, in step marking in CA exams.
ICAI's examiners' comments show the same mistakes every attempt. In May 2026 Financial Reporting, many failed "to follow the formats prescribed under Division II of Schedule III to the Companies Act, 2013, omitting Notes to Accounts and preparing incomplete or inaccurate working notes". In Audit, many "focused only on the final conclusion without describing the additional audit procedures to be performed" (Final Group I suggested answers with examiners' comments, May 2026, PDF (opens in a new tab)). None of these show up in a total; they only show up when an answer is checked step by step. More, paper by paper, in ICAI examiner comments.
What "ICAI-style" evaluation can and cannot mean
Any test series, ours included, that says "ICAI-style" step marks means marking the way ICAI describes: by step, not just the final figure, with marks for format, working notes, provisions, application and conclusion. It cannot mean ICAI's own scheme, because ICAI doesn't publish one. Treat the marks on a checked mock as a map of where you lose marks, not a prediction of your exam score.
CA Final paper verification and revaluation
There is no revaluation of CA Final papers. ICAI says "There is no provision for revaluation of papers." What you can apply for after the result:
| Option | What it does | ICAI fee and deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Verification of marks | Checks for unmarked answers, totalling errors and mismatches between step-wise marks and the cover-page total | ₹50 per paper, within a month of the result |
| Certified copy of answer book | Scanned copy of your evaluated answer book, emailed to you | ₹100 per paper, within 30 days of the result, via the SSP dashboard |
Fees and deadlines are from the Final November 2026 Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab); what verification checks is from ICAI's FAQs on Examinations, PDF (opens in a new tab).
CA test series MTP evaluation: does anyone check ICAI's MTPs?
ICAI does not check online MTP answers. For the November 2026 MTPs, ICAI uploads an answer key and says "Students can examine their answers with respect to the Answer Keys and self-assess their performance" (MTP announcement, PDF (opens in a new tab)). To check an MTP yourself, use our MTP self-checking method.
That is the gap a checked CA mock test fills: ICAI's free papers give you questions and answers, not an outside view of your own answer sheet.
How to judge a CA test series evaluation before you pay
You can't see the checking until you buy, but you can ask five questions:
- What exactly comes back? Question-wise marks only, or step-wise marks with a reason for each cut and the correct line?
- When? In hours or days, not weeks.
- How do I submit? For CA Final, by hand, on a real answer sheet.
- Which papers are checked? Own papers only, or anything you send? Know which you are buying.
- Can I see the papers first? Preview pages show the level of the questions you'll be checked on.
Our full checklist is in how to choose a CA test series, and the honest "is it worth paying for" test is in is CA test series worth it. To check what a seller says about its checking before you pay, see the 7 signs of a reliable CA test series.
How to use a checked copy
A checked copy only raises your marks if you work with it. Give it as much time as the paper itself.
- Read every comment the same day, in order. Tick each mark cut once you understand it.
- Put every cut in one group: concept not known, misread question, calculation slip, presentation (format, working notes, conclusion), or time. The four-group table in how to check your answers with ICAI suggested answers works well.
- Log each cut, one line per cut, with the fix in your own words. The CA Final test series schedule shows the log we suggest.
- Rewrite the two weakest answers the next day, closed book and timed, using the correct lines from the checked copy.
- Write the next mock in that subject and see whether the same cuts come back.
If the same reason appears in three mocks, it is not a slip. It is a habit, and it is the first thing to fix before the exam.
Frequently asked questions
Do you check ICAI MTPs?
No. We check only our own papers. For ICAI's MTPs, use the answer key and our MTP self-checking method.
How soon should a CA test series evaluation come back?
Before your next paper in that subject. Ours comes back within 24 hours of upload.
What are the CA Final paper checking fees at ICAI?
The fees students mean are ICAI's post-result fees: verification of marks is ₹50 per paper and a certified copy of your answer book is ₹100 per paper (Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)).
Can I get my CA Final paper rechecked or revalued?
No revaluation. Verification only checks for unmarked answers and totalling errors; it does not re-mark your answers.
Is "ICAI-style" step marking the same as ICAI's marking?
No one outside ICAI can promise that, because ICAI doesn't publish its marking scheme. It means marking step by step the way ICAI describes, so you see which step lost the mark.
