Best CA test series: how to choose for Foundation to Final
The best CA test series for you is the one whose papers match ICAI's current pattern and amendments for your level and attempt, and whose checking tells you, question by question, why each mark was cut, fast enough to fix it before your next paper. Brand, number of tests and price come after that. This guide covers what a test series is for at Foundation, Inter and Final, a checklist to use before you pay, red flags, and how to combine one with ICAI's free papers.
What a test series is for at each level
A test series is practice with feedback: you write exam-level papers by hand, in the real time, and get them checked. If you are new to the idea, start with what is a CA test series. What it needs to test depends on your level, because the papers are built differently. How the levels follow one another, from Foundation to Final, is in CA course structure and exam sequence.
| Level | How the papers are built | What your practice must cover |
|---|---|---|
| CA Foundation | Papers 1 and 2 are descriptive, 3 hours each. Papers 3 and 4 are objective, 2 hours each, with ¼ mark deducted for each wrong answer | Written, checked answers for Papers 1 and 2; timed MCQ practice for Papers 3 and 4 |
| CA Intermediate | Every paper is 100 marks in 3 hours: 30 marks of MCQs and 70 marks of descriptive questions, no negative marking | Mostly written, checked answers, because 70% of every paper is descriptive |
| CA Final | Papers 1 to 5: 30 marks of case-based MCQs and 70 descriptive, 3 hours. Paper 6: an open-book case-study paper, 4 hours | Written, checked answers in all six, plus 4-hour case-study practice for Paper 6 |

So an MCQ-only series fits Foundation Papers 3 and 4 and little else. At Inter and Final, the value of any CA exam test series sits in the checking of your descriptive answers, where 70 of the 100 marks are.
The dates also decide what kind of series makes sense now:
- CA Final, November 2026: Group I on 2, 4 and 6 November, Group II on 9, 11 and 13 November (ICAI schedule, PDF (opens in a new tab)). With about four weeks left, only full-syllabus papers make sense.
- CA Intermediate, January 2027: Group I on 2, 4 and 6 January, Group II on 8, 10 and 12 January. CA Foundation: 3, 5, 7 and 9 January 2027 (ICAI announcement, PDF (opens in a new tab)). About three months away, so chapter or unit tests now, full-syllabus papers in December. Which Inter chapters to revise on which date, up to the last paper on 12 January, is in our CA Inter Jan 2027 revision planner. Timings and exam form dates are in CA Foundation and Inter January 2027 exam dates.
Seven things to check before you buy
Ask these about any test series, ours included.
1. Are the papers at your level and on ICAI's current pattern?
Read a few actual questions. A Final paper should have case-scenario MCQs worth 30 marks and 70 marks of descriptive questions, with Question 1 compulsory and a choice among the rest, as in May 2026 (Final Group I suggested answers, May 2026, PDF (opens in a new tab)). A Paper 6 mock should have five case studies of 25 marks, of which you answer four (Final Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)). If a series's papers are shorter, easier or in an old format, they will train you for the wrong exam.
2. Are they written for your attempt's amendments?
Tax and law change every attempt. For CA Final November 2026, ICAI's RTPs say direct tax answers follow the Finance Act, 2025 with notifications and circulars up to 30.04.2026 (RTP Paper 4, PDF (opens in a new tab)), and indirect tax answers follow GST and customs law up to 30 April 2026 (RTP Paper 5, PDF (opens in a new tab)). A series reused from an older attempt can mark you right for law that no longer applies. Check the cut-off for your own level in CA exam applicability, and for Jan 2027 Inter, the study material and amendments ICAI announced.
3. What does a checked copy actually contain?
This matters more than anything else. A total out of 100 tells you how you did, not what to fix. Ask for:
- marks for every question, and step-wise marks inside each answer, the way ICAI records them;
- the reason for every mark cut: missing working note, wrong provision, provision not applied to the facts, wrong format, no conclusion;
- the correct line you should have written, so you can fix it in the next paper;
- comments on presentation and working notes, which ICAI's examiners mark down every attempt.
Why step marks matter, and what ICAI itself says about them, is in step marking in CA exams. What a good checked copy looks like in detail is in CA Final test series with evaluation.
4. How fast does the checked copy come back?
A copy that comes back after your next paper can't stop you repeating the same mistakes. With four weeks left for Final, you want it in a day or two; for Inter and Foundation, a few days is fine.
5. Can you see the papers before you pay?
A sample paper or preview pages let you judge the level yourself. If a series won't show you a single question, you are buying blind. How to turn each claim into proof is in reliable CA test series.
6. Fixed dates or write when you are ready?
Fixed dates suit students who need a push. Flexible papers suit uneven revision or articleship. Pick the one that matches how you actually work.
7. What does each checked paper really cost?
Divide the price by the number of papers whose answers are actually checked. "50 tests" that are mostly short chapter quizzes, or papers you only self-check, are not the same as full papers checked line by line. For CA Final, this guide to an affordable test series works the sum through, with a checklist. The same sum for Final, Inter and Foundation is in most affordable CA test series.
Red flags
- No sample, no preview, and no clear description of what the checked copy contains.
- Marks only: a total or question-wise marks, with no reason for each cut.
- No attempt named: papers not labelled with the attempt and cut-off they were written for.
- Claims nobody can back up: guaranteed passes, guaranteed ranks or "exactly like ICAI's paper". Nobody outside ICAI knows its paper or its marking scheme.
- "Free test series PDF" files passed around on Telegram or WhatsApp. We explain the problems with those in CA Final test series free vs paid.
- Far more papers than you can write, with no time left to read each checked copy and fix anything.
How many papers do you need?
There is no ICAI rule. For a full-syllabus series close to the exam, two or three checked papers per subject, each followed by a day of fixing what it showed, is more useful than ten unchecked ones. How many fit before November 2026, day by day, is in the CA Final 30-day mock test schedule. For Inter and Foundation in January 2027, there is time for chapter tests through October and November and full papers in December.
Combine it with ICAI's free papers
A test series should add to ICAI's own material, not replace it. ICAI's Board of Studies gives every level, free:
- Mock Test Papers (MTPs): full papers on fixed dates, with an answer key. For CA Final November 2026, Series I started on 9 September and Series II on 23 September, and ICAI uploads the answer key within 48 hours so that "Students can examine their answers with respect to the Answer Keys and self-assess their performance" (MTP announcement, PDF (opens in a new tab)).
- Revision Test Papers (RTPs): revision questions with full answers, written for the attempt.
- Past papers with suggested answers and examiners' comments.
The difference between the two, and when each comes out, is in ICAI RTP and MTP explained. For January 2027, ICAI's Inter MTPs run Series I from 19 to 30 November and Series II from 3 to 14 December 2026, and its Foundation MTPs Series I from 1 to 9 December and Series II from 14 to 21 December 2026; paper-wise dates are in CA Inter and Foundation MTP Jan 2027 schedule.
All of it, with direct links to ICAI's PDFs, is on our free resources pages:
| Level | MTPs | RTPs | Past papers | Study material |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CA Final | MTPs | RTPs | Past papers | Study material |
| CA Intermediate | MTPs | RTPs | Past papers | Study material |
| CA Foundation | MTPs | RTPs | Past papers | Study material |
The gap in ICAI's material is the checking: you mark your own copy. You can do that well with ICAI's suggested answers and a strict method for checking your own MTP. A paid series is worth it when you want your descriptive answers checked for you and more new papers than ICAI gives.

Frequently asked questions
Which is the best CA test series?
There is no official ranking, and none of the providers, including us, can honestly claim one. The best series for you is the one on your attempt's pattern and amendments, with step-wise checking and a reason for every mark cut, returned fast enough to use. Use the seven checks above on every option.
Do I need a test series for CA Foundation?
For Papers 3 and 4, timed MCQ practice matters most, because ¼ mark is deducted for each wrong answer (Foundation Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)). For Papers 1 and 2, which are descriptive, written answers that get checked help most. ICAI's free MTPs and past papers are a good start, and our CA Foundation test series for January 2027 gives you full-syllabus mocks in all four papers with your checked copy back within 24 hours.
Is ICAI's MTP a test series?
It works like a free test series on fixed dates, except that you check your own copy against the answer key. ICAI's announcement says students "self-assess their performance" (PDF (opens in a new tab)).
Do you have a test series for CA Inter?
Yes. Our CA Intermediate test series for January 2027 is live, by group or both groups, alongside our CA Final November 2026 series and our CA Foundation January 2027 series. ICAI's own free papers are on our CA Intermediate and CA Foundation pages.
Online MCQ test series or written test series?
Written, for every paper with descriptive questions: that is all of CA Final and Inter, and Foundation Papers 1 and 2. MCQ-only practice can't test your working notes, formats or how you apply a provision to the facts.
