How to write a CA Final mock test at home like the exam

· Updated · 11 min read

To write a CA Final mock test at home like the exam, start at 1:45 PM with 15 minutes of reading, write by hand on numbered sheets with each answer on a fresh page, mark MCQs on a cover grid, use only an exam-legal calculator and keep your phone in another room. Then spend as long checking and rewriting as you spent writing. The paper shows where you are; the checking is what raises your marks.

This matters now because the November 2026 papers start on 2 November and every mock you write from here is a rehearsal for one afternoon. This guide covers the home setup, the clock, ICAI's own answer-book rules and a self-check. ICAI's MTP dates and downloads are in our CA Final MTP Nov 2026 news; the minute-by-minute plan inside the paper is in how to attempt a CA Final paper in 3 hours.

How to write a CA Final mock test at home: the checklist

Set this up the night before, so nothing on the day breaks the "exam" feeling.

Copy this from the examAt homeWhy
Reading time 1:45 to 2 PMRead and choose questions; write nothingTrains you to plan before you write
Writing 2 to 5 PM (Paper 6: 2 to 6 PM)One sitting, no pauses, a wall clockYour 4:30 PM self is the one who loses marks

PhoneIn another roomEven a switched-off phone in the hall is unfair means
MaterialNone (Paper 6: only your own printed, tabbed set)Same as the hall

The rules in this table come from ICAI's November 2026 schedule (PDF) (opens in a new tab), its Guidance Notes for Final November 2026 (PDF) (opens in a new tab) and its specimen answer books for September and November 2026 (opens in a new tab). Each one is explained below.

Which CA Final mock test paper to write

A mock is only useful if it looks like the paper you will get: 100 marks, 30 marks of case-based MCQs and 70 descriptive in 3 hours for Papers 1 to 5, and a 4-hour open-book case-study paper for Paper 6 (Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)). The full pattern is in our CA Final exam pattern guide.

For a tax mock, check the law. ICAI's own RTPs for November 2026 use the Finance Act, 2025 with notifications and circulars up to 30 April 2026 (Paper 4 RTP, PDF (opens in a new tab); Paper 5 RTP, PDF (opens in a new tab)). All six papers' RTPs, with what each one opens with, are in CA Final RTP Nov 2026 PDF with answers. A mock from an older attempt can quietly test you on changed law; see CA exam applicability. What a good IDT mock must test is in our CA Final IDT mock test guide. How many free full papers you have per subject is worked out in free CA Final mock test papers; what free papers leave out, and whether a paid series is worth it, is in CA Final test series: free vs paid.

CA Final exam timings to copy

Start at 1:45 PM, not whenever you are free. ICAI's November 2026 schedule (PDF) (opens in a new tab) gives every CA Final paper 15 minutes of reading time:

Papers 1 to 5Paper 6 (IBS)
Reading time1:45 to 2 PM1:45 to 2 PM
Writing time2 to 5 PM2 to 6 PM
Exam datesGroup I from 2 Nov, Group II from 9 NovPaper 6 is in Group II

Use the 15 minutes to read the paper and choose your questions, as you will in the hall. If you can, write the Group I mocks in the real order (FR, then AFM, then Audit) on afternoons, so your best focus lands at 2 PM.

A starting time budget: Papers 1 to 5 give you 1.8 minutes per mark, so a 14-mark question is worth about 25 minutes. Don't build the full plan here; take it from how to attempt a CA Final paper in 3 hours and test it in your mock.

Use ICAI's answer sheet format: the specimen answer book

ICAI publishes specimen copies of the answer books (opens in a new tab) for the September and November 2026 exams. The instructions on the cover say:

  • "The answer to each question must be commenced on a fresh page", with the question number written prominently at the top (or distinctly in the margin).
  • Each answer must be completed "in one page or in a consecutive set of pages, before the next question is taken up." Don't leave half an answer to come back to later.
  • Score out (X) any blank pages before you hand the book in.
  • MCQs are darkened on the OMR cover with an HB pencil, and rough work must not be done on that cover.

At home, copy all four: fresh page per answer, finish one answer before the next, strike out blank pages, and mark your MCQ grid on sheet 1 only. It feels fussy, but it is exactly the habit you need on 2 November. For how to lay out each answer (headings, working notes, provisions), see how to write answers in the CA exam.

MCQs: practise the OMR step

There is no negative marking in CA Final MCQs, so answer every one (Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Mark your choices on the cover grid as you go. Leaving all 30 marks of transfer to the last five minutes is how answers end up blank.

Calculator and phone

ICAI allows a battery-operated portable calculator of "any type upto 6 functions, 12 digits and upto two memories"; "Scientific calculator is not allowed". Mere possession of a mobile phone in the hall, even switched off, is unfair means (Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Use your exam calculator in every mock and a wall clock for time.

Paper 6: only your own printed material

Paper 6 is open book, but only your "own material in hard form", in your own handwriting, with no phone or tablet and no sharing (Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Write your IBS mock with exactly the tabbed set you will carry. Our Paper 6 IBS guide covers how to prepare it.

How to check your CA Final mock test: the self-check

Checking is where the marks come from. Do it the same day or the next.

  1. MCQs first. Mark them against the answer key and note which ones you guessed.
  2. Each descriptive answer step by step, not just the final figure. ICAI gives marks for correct steps; see step marking in CA exams. For ICAI MTPs, our MTP self-checking method has a marking sheet.
  3. Log every lost mark in one line: paper, question, cause (concept, misread, calculation, presentation, time) and fix.
  4. Rewrite, don't re-read. Close the solution and rewrite your two costliest answers, timed, the next day.
  5. Revise the chapters the log exposed before the next mock in that subject.

A worked mini-example

Say you score 52 in an FR mock. Your log shows: 6 marks lost to one misread question, 5 to missing working notes, 4 to MCQs you guessed, and 3 to an unfinished last answer. Only the 4 MCQ marks are "concept" marks. The other 14 come from reading, presentation and time, which is exactly what the home setup above trains. Your next FR mock targets those three habits, not a fresh read of the whole syllabus. (Example written by us to show the method.)

How many CA Final mock tests, and when

With Group I from 2 November and Group II from 9 November (ICAI schedule, PDF (opens in a new tab)), there is time for about three full mocks per subject if you are writing one group, each followed by a day of checking. Writing both groups, fewer fit. The day-by-day calendar is in our CA Final test series schedule.

CA Final mock test series with a checked copy

If you want new papers and your copy checked for you, our CA Final test series follows the same steps:

  • The paper: full-syllabus mocks in every subject, brand-new questions on the latest ICAI pattern (30% MCQs and 70% descriptive in Papers 1 to 5; case-study based Paper 6). Each paper is 100 marks and 3 hours (Paper 6: 4 hours), with every amendment applicable for November 2026 tested.
  • The sitting: you write by hand, scan and upload one PDF of your answer sheet. One submission per paper, like the real exam.
  • The checking: your checked copy within 24 hours, every line checked on 50+ parameters, ICAI-style step-wise marks, the reason for every mark cut with the correct line to write, and a question-wise analysis of concept, presentation and working notes.
  • The fixing: detailed suggested answers with provisions, working notes and MCQ reasoning.

You can read preview pages of the first mock of each subject before you buy. Writing one group? See the Group I or Group II mock tests.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a CA Final mock test at home?

Start at 1:45 PM with 15 minutes of reading, write by hand for 3 hours (Paper 6: 4) in one sitting, each answer on a fresh page, with your exam calculator and no phone. Check it the same day or the next.

What is the CA Final answer sheet format?

ICAI's specimen answer book asks you to start each answer on a fresh page, write the question number at the top, finish each answer before the next, and mark MCQs on the OMR cover with an HB pencil (ICAI specimen answer books (opens in a new tab)).

Where do I get the ICAI CA Final mock test papers for Nov 2026?

On ICAI's BoS Knowledge Portal. Both series are over; dates and download steps are in our CA Final MTP Nov 2026 news, and direct links on our CA Final MTP page.

How do I check my ICAI mock test result?

You check it yourself: ICAI's announcement says you compare your answers with its answer keys and self-assess (MTP announcement, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Our MTP self-checking method shows how.

How long should I wait before the next mock in the same subject?

At least a day. Use it to check the copy, update your error log and rewrite your weakest answers; without it, the next mock repeats the same mistakes.

Practise with checked CA Final mock tests

Write the mock like the exam, then let a checked copy show you exactly where the marks went. Pick your papers on the CA Final test series page, or browse all our CA mock tests. ICAI's own MTPs, RTPs and past papers are linked on our CA Final free resources page.
