CA Final test series chapter wise vs full syllabus: which?
A CA Final test series chapter wise helps while you are still studying a subject; a full syllabus test series helps once you have covered it and need exam speed. With about four weeks to CA Final November 2026, full-syllabus papers are the better use of your time, and you can make your own chapter-wise tests free from ICAI's past papers for the one or two chapters you still find weak.
To be clear up front: our mocks are full-syllabus papers. This post explains both kinds honestly, so you can pick what fits the weeks you have.
CA Final test series chapter wise: what you get
Short papers on one chapter or a few chapters, written as you finish them. A chapter-wise series usually has many tests per subject, each shorter than 100 marks and often under 3 hours.
They're useful when:
- You have just finished a chapter and want to know if it stuck.
- You are months away from the exam, studying one subject at a time.
- A whole chapter is weak and you want focused practice on it.
What they can't do is train you for the real paper: choosing questions across the syllabus, moving between topics in one sitting, and finishing 100 marks in 3 hours.
CA Final full syllabus test series: what you get
Complete 100-mark papers covering the whole subject, in the exam's own time and pattern. For November 2026 that means 30 marks of case-scenario MCQs and 70 marks of descriptive questions in Papers 1 to 5, and five case studies of which you attempt four in Paper 6, in 4 hours (ICAI Guidance Notes, PDF (opens in a new tab)).
A full-syllabus series usually has two to three papers per subject. Each one tests what the exam tests: recall across chapters, speed, presentation and stamina.
Chapter wise vs full syllabus, side by side
| Chapter-wise test series | Full syllabus test series | |
|---|---|---|
| Best time | While studying, months before the exam | Last 6 to 8 weeks, once the syllabus is done |
| Length | Short; one chapter or a few | 100 marks, 3 hours (Paper 6: 4 hours) |
| Tests per subject | Many | Usually two to three |
| Builds | Chapter knowledge | Exam speed, question choice, stamina |
| Shows you | Gaps in one chapter | Where marks go across the whole paper |
| Free from ICAI? | Not as a series; you can build one from past papers | Yes: MTP Series I and II, past papers |
Rule of thumb: chapter-wise while you learn, full syllabus while you revise. Close to the exam, mixing in a chapter test is fine for a weak chapter, but your main practice should be full papers.
Which one for CA Final November 2026?
Full syllabus. Group I starts on 2 November and Group II on 9 November 2026 (ICAI schedule, PDF (opens in a new tab)). From early October that is about 28 days to your first Group I paper.
In that time, a full mock done properly takes about two days: one to write it, one to check and fix it. That leaves room for roughly 14 full mocks across both groups, or all 9 for one group. Spending those days on chapter tests means walking into the exam without having finished a 3-hour paper in real time. The day-by-day version is our CA Final test series schedule for Nov 2026.
If a chapter is still weak, don't buy a chapter-wise series for it now. Make your own, free, as below.
CA Final subject wise test series
A subject-wise test series is one subject's papers on their own, chapter-wise or full. It suits you if one paper is far weaker than the rest, or you're writing only one group.
Close to the exam, the same rule applies: pick full-syllabus papers in that subject. Our full-syllabus mocks are organised by group, and each subject's mocks have their own page:
Chapter wise test series for Audit, AFM and DT: make your own, free
Pull a chapter's questions from ICAI's past papers, RTPs and MTPs, and write them as one timed test. Students search for chapter-wise series in Audit, AFM and DT most; this works for any paper.
- Pick the chapter from your error log or your last mock: the one where you lost the most marks.
- Collect 3 to 5 questions on it from recent ICAI past papers, the November 2026 RTP and the MTPs. All are linked on CA Final free resources.
- Time it at the exam's rate. A 3-hour, 100-mark paper gives you about 1.8 minutes per mark, so a 14-mark question gets about 25 minutes.
- Write by hand, then check against ICAI's suggested answer, step by step, as in how to check your answers with ICAI suggested answers.
- Go back to a full paper within a day or two, so the chapter fix is tested in a real sitting.
A mini-example for Audit: if your last mock lost marks on Standards on Auditing questions because you named the SA but never applied it to the facts, pick four past SA case questions, write them at 1.8 minutes per mark, and check whether each answer ends with a conclusion on the facts given.
For DT and IDT, use only questions that still hold under the November 2026 law: ICAI's RTPs set the cut-off at 30 April 2026, with Paper 4 on the Finance Act 2025, AY 2026-27 (RTP Paper 4, PDF (opens in a new tab)). Which chapters carry the most marks is in CA Final syllabus and paper weightage.
How many tests are in a CA Final test series?
It depends on the kind of series, so compare full checked papers, not the headline count.
| Structure | What a "test" means | Tests per paper |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter-wise | A short paper on one chapter or a few | Many, roughly one per chapter group |
| Part-syllabus, then full | A few papers on a third or half of the syllabus, then one or two full papers | A handful |
| Full-syllabus only | A complete 100-mark paper, like the real exam | Usually two to three |
A series with many chapter tests and one full paper per subject gives you less exam-length practice than three full papers per subject, even though its count looks bigger. More on the kinds of series in what is a CA test series.
Does a full syllabus series really cover every chapter?
Check how the chapters are spread across the mocks, not just the number of mocks. One 100-mark paper can't cover every chapter of FR or DT. Three papers can, if they're planned that way.
Before you buy any full-syllabus series, ask:
- Is every chapter covered across the mocks, or only the popular ones?
- Is there more weight on the most-asked chapters, the way ICAI's papers lean?
- Are the questions new, or lifted from ICAI papers you may have already written?
Frequently asked questions
Is a chapter wise test series good for CA Final?
Yes, while you are still studying a subject. In the last six to eight weeks before the exam, full-syllabus papers do more for your marks.
Is a full syllabus test series enough for CA Final?
For the last month, yes, with two to three checked full papers per subject plus ICAI's MTPs and past papers. Fill one weak chapter with a few timed past questions rather than a separate series.
Can I do chapter wise and full syllabus tests together?
Yes: full papers as the main practice, with a short chapter test only for the chapter your last mock showed was weakest.
Should I buy a chapter wise test series one month before CA Final?
Usually not. A month is enough for about two to three full mocks per subject with fix days; chapter tests take the time those need.
